Krasnoyarsk — an administrative centre of huge region, stretched from the north to the south on 4 000 km of Russia. Having stretched on the banks of Enisey — the deepest river of the former USSR — its area is 2 400 000 square kilometers. In this territory ten Great Britain or four and a half of France freely could be placed.
The nature of this region is amazingly various. And it is not surprising: in territory of Krasnoyarsk region several climatic zones are located. And if to travel across Enisey which bears the waters from the south of region on the north, from Sajan mountains up to Arctic ocean you can see steppe and taiga, tundra and the Arctic desert within several days, to admire graceful flight of the eagle, to see a bear trading fish on Enisey shallows, to drive during parking on a reindeer and to be photographed on the background of dozing walruses and seals at polynia.
Climate here is sharply continental. Average temperature of January from-18 in the south of the region up to-36 degrees of Celsius in the north. The same disorder of average temperatures and in July as well: from +10 up to +20. On Taimyr peninsula and in Evenkiya drops out about 300 mm of deposits for a year, in the south — 800—1200 mm. The land in the north of region is held down by a permafrost. The most part of territory is covered by taiga and tundra.
Krasnoyarsk located in headwaters of Enisey, it is quite possible to consider southern city, to the Siberian measures. The climate is not so severe here, as on Taimyr or in Evenkiya. In the summer the temperature of air quite often rises up to 30 degrees on Celsius. However, in the winter it so often falls below-30.
The new stage of Krasnoyarsk development has begun in 1822 when by imperial command the Enisey province had been created, and Krasnoyarsk was chosen its center. With the advent in downgraded town of new official bodies and the high-ranking officials together with them the life here has noticeably quickened. Role of a boundary advanced post Krasnoyarsk carried out nearby many years. Earlier the city was the wooden fortress enclosed ravine, shaft and walls with five towers. The status of the city of Krasnoyarsk has received in 1690 when Siberia has been finally attached to Russia.
The cable station has started to operate in city, the elementary school, man's and female grammar schools, teacher's seminary and vocational school have been opened as well. Merchants, handicraftsmen, owners of gold-mines longed here, the first stone buildings have appeared in city, the city park has been laid out, the printing house has opened and the first Krasnoyarsk newspaper «Enisey provincial sheets» has started to be published. The construction of the Transsiberian railway passed through Krasnoyarsk has accelerated development of city. On December, 6th, 1895 the first train was met here. So from remote silent small town Krasnoyarsk has gradually started to turn into a large administrative centre of Siberia.
